New Challenges: Tall Wood Buildings, Exteriors and ESS
As building codes revise and new technologies are developed, the fire fighter’s work environment is becoming more challenging. This information session focuses on tall wood buildings, exterior building cladding and energy storage systems (ESS). Recent code changes created three new types of U.S. construction, allowing wood buildings up to 18 stories tall. Exterior cladding systems are designed to improve the energy efficiency and appearance of buildings but can provide significant firefighting challenges. Additionally, lithium-ion battery technology, due to their small size relative to their energy storage capacity, is creating new hazards in fire protection.
